Pros & cons
Pros
- Some of the strongest active noise cancellation in true wireless, so the office, plane, or train fades into the background
- Multipoint keeps a laptop and phone connected at once, switching to whichever rings or plays
Cons
- The charging case is larger than AirPods Pro, so it's less pocket-friendly
- The sealed in-ear fit only cancels well once you match the right ear-tip size

Skip it if a small, pocketable case matters most — the WF-1000XM5's case runs larger than AirPods Pro.
How we assessed it
We synthesized this
Noise cancellation is the whole reason to reach for earbuds like these, and the WF-1000XM5 delivers some of the strongest in true wireless — enough to drop the drone of a plane cabin or an open office well into the background. Multipoint pairing keeps them tied to your laptop and phone at the same time, so a call that lands mid-song simply takes over, no menu-diving. For anyone who splits the day between focused work and meetings, that combination is the draw.
Two honest trade-offs. The charging case is larger than AirPods Pro, so it's less friendly to a small pocket, and the sealed in-ear design only cancels well once you've matched the right ear-tip size. Our take reflects documented specs and the model's reputation rather than our own lab test — see how we test.
