Cookie notice

Cookies on this site

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies we use, grouped by what each one does. The short version: only the essentials run by default, and nothing else loads until you allow it.

Strictly necessary — always on

These make the site work and cannot be switched off. They include a cookie that remembers your consent choice (so we do not ask on every page) and the standard session and security cookies your browser and our host need to serve pages safely. They set no analytics and track nothing about your browsing.

Analytics — only after you consent

If you accept analytics, we set first-party Google Analytics 4 cookies — chiefly _ga and _gid — to understand, in aggregate, which pages help readers. Nothing analytics-related loads until you opt in through the banner. Withdraw consent and these cookies are expired, so they stop identifying you.

Marketing — off by default

We do not run advertising or cross-site tracking, so marketing cookies (such as Google's _gcl_* linker cookies) stay off unless you ever explicitly turn them on. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we keep marketing off regardless.

How to change your choices

You are always in control. Use the Privacy choices control in the footer to re-open the consent settings at any time — accept, reject, or adjust categories whenever you like. Your choice takes effect immediately, and withdrawing consent expires the relevant cookies.

Our commitment

This notice is a careful starting point, not the final word. Before public launch we are committed to reviewing it against live GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy, and CCPA/CPRA guidance, and to having qualified counsel review it. For how this connects to the data we handle, see our privacy notice; for how we make money, see our affiliate disclosure. That is our commitment to you, not legal advice.
