How we assessed it

We synthesized this

The SoundLink Flex is built to leave the house. An IP67 rating means water and dust do not bother it, up to 12 hours of battery covers a day at the beach or the campsite, and PositionIQ retunes the sound whether the speaker stands upright or lies flat — so it sounds right however you set it down. Bose draws more out of it acoustically than the JBL Charge, which makes it the pick when outdoor sound quality matters most.

The gap shows up at the charging port. Unlike the JBL Charge there is no power-bank pass-through, and it offers fewer field-charging options than the Charge 6 — so it will not top up your phone when you are off-grid. If that doubling-up matters to you, the Charge 6 is the better call. Our read synthesises Bose's documented battery, IP67 rating and PositionIQ feature rather than a hands-on test — see how we test.
